The Vaccine
Discussing having our shots…
I mentioned hearing that Dr. Fauci had a difficult time for about 24 hours after getting his 2nd shot of the Moderna Vaccine. His response is he doesn’t listen to Fauci anymore he has changed his mind too many times. After saying that Fauci adjusts as he learns more, the neighbor said all these people don’t seem mind getting the Trump vaccine.
I left… because it isn’t worth arguing. But I will blog my response.
What should we call the vaccine’s…
If we want to give credit let’s talk about credit.
Yes, Donald Trump implemented Operation Warp Speed, but credit also needs to be spread.
The Chinese need to be high on list. Everyone acknowledges that without the Chinese releasing the genome, the development process would have taken a lot longer. So maybe we should call it the Chinese vaccines.
Trump, can’t take credit for Pfizer vaccine, they did not participate in operation Warp Speed. So the first vaccine developed in the US didn’t ues Trump funding.
Dr. Fauci has a close working relationship with Moderna. He had more to do with the development of the Moderna vaccine then Trump.
So using these facts we must rule out naming the vaccine after Trump.
I would name the disease after Trump
He after all downplayed and bungled the response from late April right until he left office. But it will not just go away as Trump repeatedly claimed, we must work at it.
COVID under Donald Trump has been a unmitigated disaster. He even suggested on national TV (don’t do this) ingesting bleach as a potential cure.
And now we get to distribution…
Yes, we were able to speed the vaccine development. But his administration provided no leadership in developing plans for distribution, before and after the vaccine was developed.
We knew since April that the vaccine was our best chance to get beyond COVID. What planning occurred to distribute the vaccine. It was left to the states, with little our no direction or planning by the Trump administration.
Distribution of the vaccine was slow from the beginning. The promises made and the goals set were not kept. It is only now that we have leadership which is dealing with the problems and making a plan.
Donald Trump just pointed fingers. He yelled your the problem and not once did he offer a real solution or a coherent message. It used to be that our president operated on the principle that the “Buck Stops in the Oval Office” That just plain was not the case with Donald Trump. The “Buck just got kick out the door toward the latest person who had the backbone to disagree with the tyrant.
We must vaccinated everyone…
That includes Trump followers and non-Trump supporters, Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. It includes all races and ethnic groups and must not stop with our borders but must stretch to rich countries and poor countries world wide.
Trump decided it was in the best interest to leave the World Health Organization. Vaccinations world wide are something the WHO is good at. We need a seat at the table and need to help in the effort for our own benefit.
In Today’s World…
We can not afford being a lone wolf. The United States needs to lead by example and effort. Leaving the WHO is a bad precedent. Think of a future pandemic, where the US is not provided the genome for the next disease because we are not part of the global health community. Our response will be hindered even more then in 2020.
So while I don’t want to be caught up on a name. I also don’t want to praise Donald Trump in any way form or manner. He was a disaster as president which we can not afford to repeat.
