A Retrospective…
2020 and my thoughts.
Over the last couple of months I have written many entries here. The topics are not very diverse, but hopefully I’ve provided some insights into my thoughts.
I’ve blogged about things that interest me.
Family, friends, and travel or this year lack there of. Local birds and wildlife described in a recent entry. Sports have not been a big topic, but for my teams this year has been less than satisfying.
Neither the Patriots, Red Sox, or even the Celtics played to the finals. The Grizzles didn’t quite make the play-offs.
I’ve discussed the coronavirus.
No discussion of events this year would be complete without mentioning the pandemic. We’ve made great scientific strides, with the new vaccines. Now to get the shots into the great majority of arms. It will be the first challenge of 2021. Good luck Joe Biden.
I’ve encouraged wearing a mask. Why is such a simple thing as mask wearing so contentious. When did individual rights become more important then the common good. Even those who wear a mask often let it slip off their noses. I find that disconcerting. This will be another challenge in the months and years to come.
I’ve talked about the election.
Yes, Joe Biden won. But we have a president who still is unwilling to accept that fact. We have segment of the republican party which wishes to contest the will of the people. It is scary. This is a challenge which hopefully will fade away.
I’ve ranted about Donald Trump.
And all his untoward behaviors. My hope is that he and his followers will grow up and just plan go away. Yes we have challenges to face in the future, but Donald Trump and his authoritarian approach is not the answer.
I’ve been chastised by some that my positions are unamerican. My response is that I believe in democracy. My question to those who thing I am unamerican is “What is more important, Democracy or Capitalism?” For me the answer is Democracy.
Donald Trump does not represent Democracy he represents Capitalism. Socialism is not anti-democratic. Our democracy was formed to create a “more perfect union, … to promote the general Welfare.” There is not one word in the words of our founding fathers that suggests that capitalism is a requirement to those ends.
There are some areas where socialism “promotes the general Welfare” better than capitalism. Our society is better served by giving then the greed driven by capitalism.
So I’ll end 2020 by saying.
Happy New Year!
May 2021 find us able meet in groups and not worry about the health of those around us.
