Donald Trump often points to the Do Nothing Democrats
As Donald Trump rails against the “”Now the Do Nothing Democrats want to take off the name John Wayne from an airport,” he wrote. “Incredible stupidity!” It should be noted in this statement, Donald Trump is railing against an action proposed by the … do nothing democrats…
The Democrats in Congress have not been doing nothing. There are 395 bills which have passed the Democrat led house of representative which Mitch McConnell has stated will not be passed in the senate. Some of those bills passed on a bipartisan basis. These bills have set on the sidelines as the senate majority leader has pushed through judicial nominations. These judicial nominations will have a major impact on our country for years to come. It also demonstrates a lack of balance with respect to needs of this country. The truth is if there is a failure to legislate in this congress, it is with the “Do Nothing Republicans”
I will not debate that Donald Trump is a do nothing President. However, the damage done to the United States standing as the leader of the free world is unfathomable. The list of things undone is greater than his accomplishments.
- Unilateral withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal
- Withdrawal of troops so Turkey could push the Kurds out of Northern Syria
- Unilateral withdrawal from the voluntary global climate change pact
- Relationship with NATO has weakened
- Support of dictatorships, such as Saudi Arabia, Russia, North Korea
- And now the withdrawal from the WHO.
How can withdrawing from the WHO help?
The answer is it will weaken our ability to respond to the next global pandemic. But wait, “no one could have predicted the coronavirus” see http://nobodyretires.com/index.php/2020/05/08/nobody-predicted/. This is consistent with an America First attitude that we have the best of everything and to hell with all the rest of you.
The current status of the coronavirus epidemic in the US shows that this is definitely not the case. While other countries have been able to slow the spread and achieve rates where contact tracing and mitigation techniques can limit the risk. The US has dived head long into what is a worse case scenario. Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead! My hope is that Mr. Trump is right and it will magically go away. Even if it does, it will be too late for those currently infected and those soon to be infected.
While the death rate has gone down, it now is slowly going up again. Hospitals are again complaining about lack of PPE. While our president boasts about manufacturing and sending unneeded ventilators to other parts of the world and exiting the WHO. Who is this mad man, we elected president. Who believes his continued lies to a mounting threat? Why can’t people see he is leading us into a dark alley?
The Heros Act Passed the House
In mid-May the House of Representatives passed the Heros Act. Since then the Senate has said we need to wait. The Senate has not debated this legislation.
Now many states, Republican led states, are in the midst of a major surge in cases. Many are contracting coronavirus and are unable due to illness to work. At the same time the Republican Senate wishes to cut the weekly unemployment checks, to reduce the amount of the personal stimulus checks to individuals. Now is not the time to wait, but to act.
This stimulus needs to benefit those employees who get sick, to help them pay the rent and put food on the table. It needs to address the needs of individuals and then if there is money left over help the small business owners. Any company owned by a billionaire should be exempted from this stimulus package.
I wonder how the senate would vote now?
If the impeachment trial was today, how would our senate vote? I wonder if they regret their position in January, to not hear more evidence? This man is not a leader. Donald Trump is a buffoon! Little wonder he often arrives to a baby Trump balloon when he travelled abroad. Is that the image we want the leaders of foreign governments to have of our president?
It is time for a change.
Mitch McConnell to lead and ask Nancy Pelosi to send him new articles of impeachment.
