Since he has not lost, Donald Trump is not going back to Mira Largo to play golf on January 20, 2021. The role of retired presidents is to stay quiet. While most past presidents give an address at their parties convention. For the most part they do not normally openly criticize current presidents. They stay quiet.

Unlike previous presidents, expect Donald Trump to be a vocal critic of Joe Biden’s every move. He wants to stay relevant for a run in 2024. His campaign will start almost immediately.

With his legal troubles and a desire to stay relevant, Donald Trump may play less golf in the next 4 years than he did as President.

Biden’s Problem

Biden desires a return to bipartisan politics. Donald Trump want chaos. It is easier to create chaos, than to create workable compromises. Especially in the current environment.

Joe Biden will need to pick his battles carefully. He should not worry about what Donald Trump is talking about. For Joe Biden, Donald Trump might as well not exist.

Joe Biden’s Agenda

He needs a short list of agenda priorities. This list should include the least contentious items. This is indeed a short list. The republicans are not in a mood to compromise. Differences win elections. The republicans know this and will act accordingly.

My list of Agenda Items.

I’ve discussed this before but will repeat, maybe modify here.

COVID relief package (should happen before he takes office)

Immigration Reform

Infrastructure and Jobs

He should float a written health care policy. Health care is a mine field destined to ruin his presidency, should he make it a priority. Small gains in this arena would be welcome.

Rebuilding the institutions of a democracy must also be high on his list. Most of this work should be done using Executive Order. Donald Trump continues to damage our institutions and this work alone is a massive undertaking.

Good Luck Joe Biden

Not Going Away Quietly When Does the Campaign Start for 2024.
