This eMail acknowledge receipt of my request for a vaccine. Palm Beach County is vaccinating 500 people a day. The queue for appointments is over 120,000 long. At that rate I figure I’ll get my vaccination in approximately 240 days. This is just those of us 65 and older. When the state starts general vaccinations the situation will get worse.

I’ll have to look at other options.

Yes, I know friends and family who have been vaccinated. That is good news. My live in companion has received her first shot. So shame on me. She went to Dade county. I need to work at this harder.

That should just not be the case. My doctor indicated that as soon as she had vaccine available, she would contact me and I would get the shot. I’m not certain that she has gotten her shot yet.

The government had plenty of time to plan this distribution and vaccination effort. The states and local governments were left to plan the details. The process is obviously failing. Operation Warp Speed did well with pushing vaccine development. But logistics of distribution is lacking.

While all the details may not have been known, it was known the process of vaccinating 300 million citizens would stretch existing systems. The federal response was to push the issue to the states and local governments. There was no coordination to develop scheduling plans. It was all ad hoc.

As with the pandemic response, a single uniform response is missing. States need federal assistance developing plans for emergencies. This has been an emergency like no other and the federal government has been AWOL. The republican senate has been slow approving assistance to states for immunization costs.

There is little to no indication that he made plans. He gets and distributes the vaccine. There was no plan for how to get the vaccine into peoples arms. Just here it is.

Palm Beach county got 20,000 doses in the first batch. The next batch contained only 5,000. The uneven supply chain makes it difficult to plan.

With all this I still expect my vaccination before June.
