So it’s Official.
Trump has announced the lunacy continues.
For whatever reason, Donald Trump has decided that election season never ends. I understand he has legal issues up to his adams apple. He must be getting tired of treading water. But he continues to insist we listen to his insanity.
He already has a civil trial in progress in New York, which threatens his ability to do business in New York City. The next question is which grand jury indicts him first.
- The one in Georgia for his pressuring Brad Raffensperger to find 11,800 votes. This is clear obuse of power by an elected official. This is a known fact, we have listened to the recording of the call.
- Or another investigating his mishandling of classified material. His followers chanting “Lock Her Up!” indicates he believes this is a crime. Because the similarities between this and Hillary Clinton’s eMail server are just undeniable. Until you listen to the lies.
- Or my favorite, the one for insurrection based on his actions and inactions surrounding January 6th. We saw this play out on TV, and it wasn’t ANTIFA. It was Trump’s base of white supremist supporters. Trump invited them to Washington; Fact! He incited them via a speech at the ellipse and sent them to the capital; Fact! And then when the secret service refused to let him join in, he quietly watched on TV and did nothing; Fact!
All of these are viable prosecutions, not based on politics, but on fact. Oh, I forgot. Fact is not important, only the lies Trump wishes for us to believe.
Sorry Donald, I’m not a lemming!
This is Donald Trump in a nutshell.
He repeats lies often and loudly. Until both he and others believe. This break with reality divides us like no other before him. It is what makes a civil public discourse impossible. Yet his supporters do not fail him.
Donald Trump does not unite this country.
He divides it. Mostly along lines of affluence. He pits those that have against those who don’t. But the result is a us against them mentality which does not accept compromise and the exchange of ideas.
He claimed he wanted to be the infrastructure president. Yet when democrats came to the White House to discuss terms, he turned them away based on a petty grievance.
Those who lead must lead based on topic and not get side tracked. That is the difference between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Biden stays on topic. It makes him a better president by far than Donald Trump.
It is the reason Joe Biden got an infrastructure package through Congress.
Infrastructure Package.
As a country we have watched our infrastructure slowly crumble. We have seen the results as bridges collapsed and as pot holes become more numerous and deeper. Trump talked about infrastructure. Biden got it passed.
The interstate system has for years enable products to move to every corner of the country. Tourists have visited the beauty of our parks.
It was past time for an upgrade for our transportation systems and time to look to the future. Cleaner sources of energy, secure power grids, the transfer of ideas and information over the internet will drive future expansion.
Joe Biden stayed on topic and got congress to pass the Inflation Reduction Act.
Inflation Reduction Act.
The seeds of this inflationary cycle sown during Donald Trump’s presidency. Lower demand based on COVID caused lower prices at the pump. This in turn reduced production. As the economy ramped up the reduced supply and increased demand caused prices to rise. Capitalism at work at it’s worst.
As supply increases we are already seeing prices go down. Capitalism at work at it’s best.
As a country, if we chose capitalism, we need to accept its consequences.
Biden didn’t sit back and point fingers. He urged Congress to pass the Inflation Reduction Act. While the package may not have been as big as he desired, he was willing to stay on topic an compromise. The package is centered on reducing the impact of climate change.
Inflation Reduction Act and Health Care.
A major part of the inflation reduction act includes expanding the Affordable Care Act. While Trump tries to abolish Obama Care, truth is it needs strengthening. Additional benefits are a reduction of prescription drug costs including limits on the cost of insulin to $35 a month.
While few Republicans voted for either act, far more are taking credit for the benefits supplied by both.
The Difference.
Donald Trump used executive orders to govern. While Biden has used executive orders, he has also been very successful in working with Congress to advance his agenda. Even during his 1st 2 years when the Republicans controlled both houses of Congress, Trump was unable to get much legislation through Congress. His only major accomplishment was to reduce taxes on the affluent.
He was unable to abolish Obamacare, because he was unable to find a better alternative. His wall was not built in concert with Congress but by declaring an emergency and diverting funds from the military.
His leadership wasn’t based on the exchange of ideas, but on pushing his unproven set of ideas.
And Now it Starts Again…
I look at today and look at Trump’s first run for president. When he announced the first time he was recognized but had few who believed he would actually win the nomination. Little has changed in the time. Many people feel he is no longer a viable candidate, but the Republican party failed to present an alternative in 2016.
The same could happen in 2024, because as we have seen many in the party of Lincoln, lack the backbone to stand up to Trump.
