Personal Highlights
- COVID is here to stay. We have neither the resolve or the unity needed to combat this disease. It is after all a virus similar to the common cold. We must find a way to deal with through both prevention and treatment.
- In late May, we took a trip across country to visit family and see some sights. I blogged along the way.
- Grand Rapids, MI, We spent a couple of days with my friends son and wife.
- South Dakota
- South Dakota to Seattle The badlands and to the west. In Seattle I was able to visit with both my step-daughters and their children. It had been several years since I saw either and it was a joy to remember we still existed.
- Oregon. On the way to Oregon, we had lunch with my cousin. It was over a decade since we last visited. After spending our vacations together as youngsters, it was good to know we have a common past. My son is in Oregon. We spent a couple of days, visiting and eating. It had been almost 20 months since I saw him. COVID has taken such a toll on those of us far apart.
- Arches National Park
- The Grand Canyon, I can no longer say I’ve been to the Grand Canyon, but I haven’t seen it. It was worth the wait and the visit.
- The Trip Back, Route 66
- Home, Sweet Home
- In August, for the first time in my life, I came close to death. Modern medicine failed to prevent my reaction to propofol (the anesthesia used during a colonoscopy.) My heart stopped and then modern medicine saved my life when CPR was used to restart my heart. I spent the next 8 days either in the ER for 36 hours and the ICU.
- In September I spent 3 weeks in Maine. Camp is still there and as wonderful as ever. The big event was a extended family lobster feast. In retrospect, it was a perfect recovery from the events in August.
When at home, I have not been as physically active as I would like. I do continue to exercise on my WII Fit sporadically but not consistently. With COVID the bridge community has moved online. It keeps my mind active.
A couple of nights a week I’ve played poker at the condo association club house. This is without a doubt the most risky behavior I have. I’m considering not playing.
It Has Been a Good Year.
I look forward to working on my bucket list in the years to come. I’m young enough that as I satisfy bucket list items, I’ll add to the list.
