Masks and Vaccinations
Do Masks Work?
I hear people try to explain their reason for not wearing a mask is that they do not work. I’d suggest a short history lesson is in order. During the Plague in Europe, medical personnel began wearing masks and improving sanitation with ill patients. It worked. Medical personnel were able to treat patients and avoid getting ill. It was religious zealots who bucked the new ideas then.
Since that time, medical staff would not consider entering an operating room without a mask. In Asia anyone with a cough/cold normal wears a mask. In short masks help slow the spread of air born disease.
The coronavirus is an air born disease. Masks work to slow the spread of this virus.
Right to not wear a mask or get a vaccine.
I agree everyone has a right to not get vaccinated. Everyone has a right to chose for themselves and their children whether to wear a mask. We are responsible for our choices.
But choice also sometimes has consequences.
I believe in masking, and I have rights as well.
The first and foremost of those rights is to require anyone within my space also wear a mask. I consider my wearing a mask is sufficient to announce this to my fellow citizens. Once I’ve made that choice and am wearing a mask, any individual who approaches me without wearing a mask is taking my right for safety out of my hands and placing it in theirs.
They are taking my freedom of choice away. They are committing assault.
Same for vaccinations.
In this environment, knowing one’s vaccination status should be a right. An unvaccinated individual threatens my health by coming near me. I have a right to judge how to deal with the unvaccinated within my space.
Which brings us to mandates…
The preamble of the constitution clearly states its purpose is to “promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” This line is unambiguous. The government is empowered to pass laws to support common good. If the government believes that masks promote of general welfare, the government is obligated to support mask mandates.
If I chose not to wear a mask, any activity requiring a mask is no longer available to me. Choice made.
Vaccination status.
A business owner has an obligation to provide a safe environment. Our employers should strive to send all employees home at least as healthy as when they arrived at work. Requiring employees to be vaccinated to protect the greater work force is a tool for creating a safe environment.
Again I have the right to chose to not get vaccinated. My employer is not required to let me spread a deadly disease in the work place.
Yes, you have the right to chose.
