Oregon here we come.
A long trip, just started.
We left home yesterday afternoon on our way to Grand Rapids, MI. After much consternation we got as far as Georgia where we stopped for the night at a Day’s Inn. A good nights sleep and on the road again. A slow progression through Georgia ended with our first couple of adventures.
A new car, a new phone interface, and a lost phone…
The first issue is a lost phone. We were able to have our savior who is taking care of the the cat, find the phone and forward it to Grand Rapids. This helped us not return home and begin a day later. Now the issue is how do two people get on with one phone in today’s world.
I don’t know about you, but I get nervous when someone else handles my phone. The worry is some resetting which will take me time get back. The thought an improvement might take place, is possible but than will require relearning…
I had a boss who once told me, “change is inevitable, but people are allergic to change.” I must admit, as I get older change becomes more difficult. This trip will bring a string of firsts. As we proceed across the blog will share our adventures.
Which brings me to the new interface…
With the new car, I started using the interface to use my phones GPS to help direct us on our travels… We finally got north of Atlanta and it was time to eat. We decided BBQ was in order. For my northern friends, in Georgia barbeque is a noun and not a verb. BBQ is slow smoked pork with a sauce.
There are competitions for BBQ sauce throughout the south. Enter the phone and new interface. A voice command quickly provided a list of BBQ places, how to select one. Using ratings I quickly selected a BBQ place about 20 miles further north. Enter the suggestion to further investigate. A different restaurant was select and a new stop added.
Our GPS immediately suggested we exit. We went looking for the restaurant only to find out it was to the south… I really was not interested in going to the south, but now our phone system GPS is set to take us south.
So I got off and began looking for a visitor center… Only to get lost…
After stopping to reset the phone’s GPS, we were off again.
Still unfed. A little further up the road we repeated the process without questioning our first selection. The results were we found a place called Thatcher’s in Calhoun, GA. Ordered a barbeque sampler (Brisket, Smoked Pork, and Ribs) along with 3 sides. And a appetizer of smoked pork potato skins.
Between the two we had a feast as seen above.
The day ended at a Microtel in Bowling Green.
