Republican Message
The creation of Donald Trump
I lived in Upstate New York in the late 80’s and early 90’s. NPR was often on my radio and a weekly show of political lectures was informative. One week the topic was how the Republicans had tailored their message.
The jest of the lecture was the Republicans were taking lessons on how to tailor their message to make it more desirable. This was an effort to retake Congress which we now know occurred. The Republicans were learning how to state conservative values to make the values less restrictive and more desirable.
The other lesson was to take the offensive and spend time up front framing the conversation. Over the years they have been able to make liberal an undesirable trait and socialism actually toxic.
The result…
Began with Newt Gingrich and the contract with America. Republicans have been in the majority for much of this century. The result has been a reduced emphasis on Labor and a dilution of Corporate controls. The mortgage banking crisis was an exception.
Republican legislatures have created guidelines requiring a balanced budget. After 9/11, Bush and the war on terror, made it impossible to balance the budget. The result of reducing controls on the economy brought us the Mortgage Banking crisis.
Coming out of that crisis. More budgets were balanced by Barack Obama then by his Republican counterparts. Fiscal conservatism has been more a Democratic practice, then a Republican.
The current iteration is Donald Trump.
Trump went from how to tailor the truth to espousing out right lies. Gone was the semblance of fact. The Republicans led by Donald Trump now trumpet untruths as fact.
It makes compromise impossible. There is no compromise, if you can not agree on the facts.
Can the great divide be bridged?
If the facts are not agreed. Unless our politicians can agree on the facts, discussion is useless. Joe Biden’s job is impossible. Just what the Republicans want. They want Joe Biden to fail, because it is in their best interest. I can’t believe how selfish the Republican position is?
While I never liked Donald Trump and his positions, I also never wished he would fail. As long was he was President, I wanted him to succeed, be truthful and responsible for his actions. From the results, my conclusion is he did none of this.
Can it be different?
Is there a solution for our current situation. Forgiveness from both sides would be a good start.
