What do they mean?
Most Americans support impeachment…
According to https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/537966-majority-says-they-favor-conviction-as-trump-impeachment-trial-begins-poll 56% support impeaching Donald Trump. That leaves 44% who do not support impeachment.
I want to focus our attention on the 44%. It is that percentage which Republican senators use as there support for acquital. I would argue the opposite is true.
House Manager’s presentation.
The evidence presented by the House managers is factual and clear. Donald Trump’s big lie lead to this insurrection.
Donald Trump ignited the unrest by refusing to concede the election. His lies about a stolen election. By all norms of peaceful transition after his court cases failed he should have conceded.
Donald Trump did not concede.
He held rallies requesting his supporters Stop the Steal. Far from conceding Donald Trump said he would never give up the fight. He invited the crowd to Washington DC on Jan 6th. He gave an hour long speech where he repeatedly asked the crowd to be strong, to fight to Stop the Steal.
Donald Trump sent the crowd to the capital to help Mike Pence to be brave, to send the electoral votes back to the states. Mike Pence decided that it was not within his constitutional authority to act in this manner.
After the attack began…
Donald Trump watched and waited. He didn’t immediately call up the National Guard. Washington, DC mayor Muriel Bowser’s request for a National Guard presence was rebuffed by the Pentagon.
No, while his mob walked the halls and Congressional chambers hunting for members of Congress with the intent to do harm, Donald Trump was on the phone attempting garner support for his lies about the election. They erected a gallows outside the Capital Building.
After the National Guard was called in, Donald Trump finally got on TV. The decision to move the National Guard in was made without consulting Donald Trump.
Did he express concern for the police? No he voiced his support for the mob, by telling them he loved them.
The Evidence is Overwhelming.
Donald Trump is guilty as charged. A guilty verdict is needed to send a message to the 44% who believe Donald Trump did nothing wrong.
Donald Trump’s behavior is not acceptable. We must not accept mob rule in an attempt to overturn election results.
I’ve heard a republican sentiment that…
The Democratic impeachment and presentation is enough to purge Donald Trump from the Republican Party. The republicans argue that a guilty verdict is not necessary to end Donald Trump’s political ambitions. Are you sure? Or will a not guilty verdict encourage his supporters to further violence? Should we take that chance?
Republicans in the Senate, the future is in your hands. Send a message to Donald Trump and his hardcore, white supremist, violent base.
Vote Guilty!
The truth and our future demands it.
