Don’t be afraid of COVID.
I agree
There are few things I agree with Donald Trump. One of them is that we should not be afraid of the coronavirus. I agree.
But we should respect the coronavirus and the disease COVID-19. This disease may not kill everyone who contracts it, but it does kill a good percentage of the seniors who get it. That alone is enough to know we should do what we can to prevent the spread.
Trump’s calculation is that he can let it spread unabated.
In many locations throughout the country, hospitals are struggling to meet the demand for those in need of critical care. Staff at these hospitals are working hard under trying circumstances. They need our and our governments support.
This support is lacking from this White House. It took many months but now that Donald Trump is a recovered COVID patient, he has decided to let it run its course.
He continues to hold large rallies without masks or social distancing. His supports are spreading the virus. Their activity increase the risk for all or us. They consider this behavior as acceptable because they are not concerned if they get the virus. It is their right to act as they please.
I’m sorry, but it is my right to attempt to stay healthy, and their refusal to wear a mask threatens my health. They are walking all over my rights. It makes it more difficult for me to stay healthy.
Why should this be tolerated?
I believe it should not. We need a national mask mandate. The preamble of the constitution states “in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare,…” I would think protection from disease falls under “promote the general Welfare”.
A National Mask Mandate would be within our Constitution. Yes, it would require passage in both houses. But in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus, it is necessary until and maybe after we get a vaccine.
