When Asked
What do you think will happen?
My answer is that I am cautiously optimistic. What do I mean by that? I have a really hard time thinking that voters who went into the ballot box 4 years ago and held their nose and voted for Donald Trump will vote for him again. So I expected those people to vote for Biden or a 3rd party.
There are other groups of voters who will not vote for Donald Trump. There are large numbers of disinfected Republicans encouraged by groups such as the Lincoln Project and the Medias Group who will not vote for Donald Trump.
Donald Trump’s win in 2016 was by a narrow margin. Three states he won in 2016, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania will be difficult to win this time. All three states have mail-in-ballot laws which require those ballots to not be counted until the polls close on November 3rd.
This is why Donald Trump is so insistent on a declaration on November 3rd. He believes his voters will outnumber Joe Biden’s on November 3rd. Donald Trump needs the outcome to be in question. He needs the outcome to be determined by the courts and his 6-3 majority in the Supreme Court.
We Need Patience in the Vote Count?
Huge numbers of people have taken advantage of mail-in-ballots and early voting. All these ballots must be counted before declaring winners in these states.
But then come NC, GA, FL, AZ, and TX…
Polling shows 5 states are close. In TX early voting totals already outnumber the entire vote count in 2016. There is hope that Biden wins TX. Trump needs to win all 5 states to win the election. Based on 2016, polling is not to be trusted, but this gives me optimism.
If Biden were to win 3 of these states, the victory would be sufficient to given Donald no choice but to accept the result. It would limit his ability to contest the election.
We need a peaceful election.
Anything less will turn this country into turmoil. Joe Biden needs to trounce Donald Trump not only in the popular vote by in the electoral vote.
There would be nothing better than for Donald Trump to call Joe Biden late Tuesday evening and concede. I am cautiously optimistic that this will be the result this coming week.
