And in one corner…

You have a kind, compassionate man, who says he will listen to the science on health care, environment, and other issues. A man who has a plan and has done hard things in the past, including being part of the only administration to pass a health care plan in the last 50 years.

He tries to build coalitions and reach agreements. This man wishes to strengthen democracy and work with our allies.

A man with 40 plus years of experience in governing, making compromises and working for the common good. A former Vice-President whose administration worked us out of the last economic recession. An administration that for eight years sustained growth building a strong economy.

An in the other corner…

You have a man who knows better than the scientists and focus’s on building walls that divide us from our neighbors. He cozies up to our enemies and snubs his nose at our allies. Our current president doesn’t negotiate, his only defense is to fire those who disagree or point out his failings.

It is not enough that he ignores an extremely contagious virus and encourages his supporters to not wear masks, he now has to leave them out in the freezing cold and send them to the hospital. This is not a man who cares for us. Can anything be more obvious.

I read part of an article from a recent New York Times. The premise of the article is that the countries which are handling coronavirus pandemic the best are being led by scientists trained by the CDC and the WHO. These programs were started by George W. Bush.

The many of the plans used by African and Asian countries to successfully mitigate the spread COVID originate from the efforts and studies started by the CDC. These countries function well because they recognize where the virus is, contact trace, and isolate those with potential infections are using techniques developed with US support. I wish that were true in the United States. This is a case of “do as I say, not as I do.”

We know what steps we need to take in order to slow the spread. Our president just can’t live with the consequences. I wonder if we had followed the reopening guidelines in April, how much different this summer would have been? How much different the situation would be today?

We know under the current administration that contact tracing just is not useful. The spread of COVID is just to wide. So we are back to March, and the first effort steps needed to limit the spread. WEAR MASKS, social distance, and wash our hands. It will take time and patience as we wait for a vaccine.

But what is our current president’s response

To hold mega events to build his ego, which increase the likelihood of spread.
