50 Years Since a Giant Leap for Mankind
I had just graduated from High School when Neil Armstrong took his giant leap in an attempt to unite the world. What has happened since…
Donald Trump vs The Squad
I can not imagine the nerve of Donald Trump when he talks about hate by other people. He rants and raves about a Muslin Congress woman and revs up a crowd to a “Send her Back” chant. Does he understand how hate filled that is? I think he does and he chooses to go that route anyway.
It is clear now, that Donald Trump, whether he is racist or not has decided his best chance for reelection is the same way he was elected the first time. To appeal to the fears of the American people. His rhetoric tends toward “I will protect you from your worst fears” This is the type of message was successful for one of his role models, Adolph Hitler. Have we not learned our lessons yet.
As for the Squad. They have taken his bait and tried to strike back. A congress person versus a President is an unfair fight.
Mueller Report
So what does the Mueller Report have to do with this. The initial goal of the Russian social media campaign was “designed to provoke and amplify political and social discord in the United States. ” Is there any doubt that Russia has been successful in accomplishing this goal.
The current discourse in the United States is exactly what the Russians want. They want 2 extremes arguing to the point of no action. They want our democracy to crumble so they can say see democracy doesn’t work either.
Donald Trump and Democracy
His slogan is “Make America Great Again.” I question if that has anything to do with human rights or democracy. His actions say otherwise. He suggests that American citizens should be shipped “home.” He gives names and bullies those who disagree with him. His policies will return us to policies that predate the great depression. While I was not alive during the time, I am certain that that is not better than today.
I worry about our freedom’s. How much will conservative judges set back the hard earned rights of working Americans? Abortion soon will only be available illegally and some women will end up having medical procedures in back alley shops which lead to life threating conditions. Is that better? What other rights will we give up? What other ways will we suffer?
Pulling out of the Paris Climate Change Accord
Worst agreement ever…
Climate change and environmental concerns. We started improving our environment on a local basis. I remember rivers in this country which stunk when you crossed over on bridge. Some of our rivers were covered in a brown scum. Can there be little doubt that there is a place for the EPA and environmental laws.
What has changed is that we can no longer deal with our enviroment on the local level. This has become an international problem. I’d like to know how a non binding agreement can be the worst deal ever.
Pulling out of Iran Nuclear Agreement
Worst treaty ever…
I would think the uncertainty of the future would indicate, that even if there is a rainbow at the end of this ordeal, that a deal in place is better than no deal.
Why again could this deal not be renegotiated?
Obama Care
Worst ever…
Why has it taken a republican congress 2 years to unsuccessfully replace Obama Care? My conclusion is that it may not have been as bad as our republican congress was saying all these years. There were many good things about Obama Care, but instead of fixing the problems, they have to replace it to diminish a previous president.
How many of these deals were the worst ever.
The answer is they were the worst deals ever only because they were entered into by his predecessors. If they are not initiated by Donald Trump, they are worthless. Only Donald Trump can do things right. When did we as a people decide that tearing down is better then building up?
What makes America Great?
What makes American great is that we have learned from our ancestors and worked to improve on what exists. Replacing a broken spoke is often better than throwing out the entire wheel.
We need to get back building up and not tearing down. We need to work together.
So what is next?
The squad and Donald Trump kiss and make up… I doubt it. I have never been more concerned about the direction of this country. I’m concerned that outside influences work to drive a wedge between our extremes and separate us more. We must learn to have a civil discourse on the issues before us.
Certainly, we where in a better spot 50 years ago…
The space age technology has led to:
- Computers
- Cell Phones
- The internet
- Flat Screen TV’s
- and so much more…
Our politics just has not kept up the pace…
And looking back will not provide the answers…
