Why Blog?
I decided I wanted to blog. Why?
I don’t care if I’m heard. I am after all a nobody. So why blog.
I’m retired, I want to keep my mind active? Maybe. Of course, I retired and since have gone back to work part time, so that doesn’t really fit. By learning to blog it gives me a new way to express my thoughts and feelings.
A little about me
I have a degree in Engineering, which until a couple of years ago, I used to program computers. I enjoyed my work. Each day brought a new puzzle. Why did it do that? How can I make it do what I want? While I’ll never claim to be the best programmer ever. I was good at my job. What a computer is and with programming what a wonderful tool it is to help improve the lives of everyone. As a programmer, I am good at solving the puzzles which come my way.
This blog, keeps me semi-engaged with the outside world and offers me a safe outlet for my views on the events of the day. My politics are too liberal to be discussed with most conservative friends. This blog provides my thoughts on things that interest me. If you read my blog, I hope you find my thoughts of interest as well. Topics may vary from politics, to religion (I consider myself agnostic), to sports, whatever meets my fancy on any given day.
I grew up in New England and follow the professional teams in the Boston area. At one time, I had season tickets to the New England Patriots. I wanted to see a play-off game live. I waited several years and it finally happened. With the best record in the AFC, the Patriots hosted the Houston Oilers. The weather was typical New England weather for January. It was 32 degrees out, windy and it poured. Earl Campbell ran from one end the old Foxborough Stadium to the other. While we were prepared for the weather, I’ve never been so cold in my life.
For the most part I’m an optimist, though I find it difficult in our current political environment. I consider myself liberal, open minded, good ideas should be celebrated no matter whose idea it is. I have conservative friends. Our solutions are more similar than different.
A Sample of What I might talk about
So why are our politicians so contrary? They act like they are 2 years old. I want to take our senators and representatives from both parties out to the wood shed and give them a spanking. Oops, I’m a liberal. I don’t believe in spankings. So as an alternative I would suggest Congress begin each day with a reading from “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.” by Robert Fulghum. Failure to attend the reading or failure to pay attention revokes all right to speak for that day. Quotes should be scattered through all the Government Office Buildings, including the White House, Supreme Court and Capital. Failure to follow the guidelines should be sanctioned.
So where to from here
I have chosen to blog to express my thoughts and feelings. At times I may preach, at other times I may just ramble. I won’t promise to funny, but I will promise to be honest.
My blog entries will be an eclectic mix of topics of interest to me. Topic’s will be random and unknown until I start writing each post. I won’t promise that the post’s will be scheduled or regular, since my schedule is not regular either. I also won’t promise a timely response to the world events, since I want to digest and think about how they impact me and the world as a whole. Some entries may result from a knee jerk reaction to recent events. My goal is that that most entries while my opinion help stimulate addition thought.
Over time I hope to travel, mostly in the western US and will share my travels in this blog as well. I have been to the Grand Canyon, but not yet seen it. We visited in the middle a blizzard and had a flight out of Phoenix the next day, so were unable to wait the weather out. If I had a bucket list, fixing this anomaly would be on my bucket list. Another item would be to visit every state in the continental US. I’ve been to every state East of the Mississippi, to California, to Alaska, but am afraid Hawaii may be too expensive and too far away.
