No one is above the law.
No one, not even the President is above the law. That axiom was part of our schooling. The recent Supreme Court ruling giving the President partial immunity is contrary to this axiom.
The entire constitution separates power between legislative, judicial, and executive branches. The founding fathers built into the constitution this separation. The new country was recovering from a long war to break from a tyrant. There was no desire to replace a king with an all powerful President.
George Washington left office after two years to limit one person from hold power too long.
Back in Early 2021 The Senate Failed to Impeach Donald Trump.
The Senate failed to act because Donald Trump was no longer in office. In light of the Supreme Court decision this now becomes an invalid argument. Impeachment is required to hold a President accountable for his actions.
Mitch McConnell’s statement was that Trump was “practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day.” He further stated. “President Trump is still liable for everything he did while he was in office, as an ordinary citizen, unless the statute of limitations has run, still liable for everything he did while in office, didn’t get away with anything yet” Given the Supreme Court ruling, that statement is NOT true.
As late as April 24th, McConnell argued against presidential immunity for criminal prosecution. I wonder if this ruling makes him regret his appointment of judges and his decisions around impeachment in early 2021.
The Supreme Court just ruled that the President is “partially immune” from prosecution in execution of his official duties. They have made the acts of the President above the law. Certainly not what George Washington and his fellow partners in forming the American republic desired. They had just fought a long war for freedom from a tyrant.
Now in 2024…
We now have that would be tyrant running for President. Donald Trump has indicated that he will be dictator for a day. The Supreme Court has ruled he is above the law. It takes 30 seconds to sign a document which suspends Congress, the Supreme Court, and the Constitution.
Monday’s Debate.
My take on the debate is simple and complex. Joe Biden attempted to express ideas and define an agenda. Donald Trump did not.
Joe Biden was the more honest of the 2 men. Donald Trump opened his mouth and out came lie after lie.
Joe Biden was unable as a sincere and honest man to expose those lies effectively. I do not believe he has dementia. He is however a senior citizen who on bad days is unable to effectively communicate. Donald Trump was successful in communicating that fact.
I agree with Joe Biden. Donald Trump is unfit for office and must be defeated. I don’t believe that Joe Biden is the man who can achieve that goal.
For the good of the nation, Joe.
Step Down. Now.
Let the next generation lead us into the future. We can not let Donald Trump have 4 more years in the White House and you are not the best candidate for the office.
