Both States are Flat…
As we drove through the states we needed some time to distract from all the flatness. We passed by the Herbert Hoover birthplace and presidential library. So naturally we decided to review the accomplishments of our 35th president.
His most notable achievement was residing over the stock market crash which led to the great depression. This event more than any other made him a one term president and led to FDR’s election in 1932. According to the article, Hoover actually set the ground work for the New Deal and the jobs programs which were later the corner stones of FDR’s presidency.
Hoover improved relations with Latin America, but was unable to prevent the imposing of tariffs which worsened the global depression.
On to South Dakota…
The drive led us to the Missouri River and suddenly the bluff dipped dramatically into the river and the bridge which crossed. We stopped to eat, Mexican just before crossing the river and then back tracked to a overhang to view a Lewis and Clark marker. The view of the river was breath taking.
Sorry about the trash can. The marker to the left provides a lat/long believed to be located at a spot Lewis and Clark stood.
Finally we were on our way to tonight’s lodging…
Just outside of the badlands park, we actually had to go through the park to get to the motel. During the trip we continued to review solutions to the worlds problems. Listening to COVID news from Canada, I realized the best thing Biden could do to get more people vaccinated.
I know I’ve resisted this in previous blogs, but I now think Biden should refer to the vaccine as the Trumpcine. How could his supporters continue to refuse to get vaccinated if THE DONALD got his wish and credit.
