What is so difficult?
I see certain truths.
I watched the CNN interview with Trump’s coronavirus scientist. There are certain takeaways I get from the interviews. The scientists admit to not understanding the virus during the early part of the pandemic. They admit some of their first advice was uniformed. Redfield gave Trump credit for closing down travel to and from China. Dr. Fauci admitted not immediately recommending masks.
It is at this point the scientist and Trump diverge. Put simply, the scientist learned from the information obtained. Donald Trump did not.
Mask wearing is the biggest divergence.
The scientists in the beginning wanted to reserve medical masks to the doctors and nurses on the front lines. At the time medical masks were in short supply. The recommendation changed when it was found that non-medical cloth masks were effective in preventing the spread.
It is at this point that Donald Trump led us in the wrong direction. This is not changing history, it is a fact. Donald Trump even on the day when the task force recommended wearing masks tempered the message by saying he would not wear one. At this point and throughout the remainder of his time in office, Donald Trump led our country down the wrong path. It was here that Donald Trump put the economy before people’s lives.
The Task Force was asked to provide guidelines for opening up the country.
The provided a measured process to safely open. These guidelines were ignored by Donald Trump. His republican governors, without meeting goals starting opening. This is not conjecture, it is fact. As cases spiked in mid-summer governors returned to mask mandates. But the damage was already done.
Donald Trump did not support the guidelines, his own task force recommended. He derided governors who tried to follow the guidelines and encouraged decent by groups who protested mask mandates and restrictions. Far from supporting the scientist, he started attacking them.
Mask wearing would have saved lives.
Mask wearing would have improved the safety in America’s work force.
Donald Trump choose to make the pandemic political…
Instead of learning new tricks, the old dog barked loudly as his followers blindly caused spike after spike and death after death. Would there have been more than the 100,000 deaths recorded early in the pandemic? Without a doubt the answer is YES! If mask wearing was universal, Would there have been less than 550,000 deaths we reached today? Without a doubt the answer is YES!
To Donald Trump’s credit he supported Operation Warp Speed. And yes this initiative is now saving lives. But credit can not be given solely to Donald Trump. The vaccine was developed by scientists. They worked long days and nights to develop the vaccine as Donald Trump retreated to his golf courses.
Enter Dr. Scott Atlas
Dr. Atlas is without a doubt an intelligent man. He is not however an expert in infectious disease. Donald Trump put him in a position of power during the pandemic. He was not added to the task force because of his expertise. Dr. Atlas’s appointment was to provide credence to Donald Trump and his ill conceived theories.
A man who is surrounded by people who blindly agree with them are not good leaders. A good leader needs to hear descent in order to make good balanced decisions. Donald Trump is not that man. His need for absolute loyalty parallels those of fascist dictators.
Crisis brings out the best and the worst in leaders.
The coronavirus pandemic brought out the worst in Donald Trump as he failed the American people. The facts bear this out.
