The House Managers Described it starting…

Early in the election cycle. It continued through the summer. “The only reason we lose this election is for massive election fraud.” It seems bad enough that he started that early.

The truth is it started in 2016, before he won the election. During the debates in 2016 Donald Trump refused to concede if he lost the election. Even after he won he made a point that he actually won the popular vote even though he lost the popular vote. He talked about fraud causing that discrepancy.

Donald Trump started his term with a lie about the size of the crowd at the inauguration. He claimed the largest crowd in history. Pictorial evidence proved the crowds a Barack Obama’s inauguration were larger.

From that point forward, he built his presidency on lies to support his self proclaimed greatness.

I can’t claim to paid attention to every word today…

But I did listen and watch as often as I could. The case against Donald Trump is well documented. In his speech on Jan 6th included the word peaceful once. Mixed in was many references to “fight” encouraging his supporter to be strong.

He invited the crowd to Washington. The crowd included many supporters who were violent in Washington in support of Donald Trump as recently as December. This invitation list were members of the fine folks in the white supremist groups. Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, etc. Groups he through out his presidency he refused to hold accountable.

He knew what would happen!

If he did not then he is a total incompetent. Oh, that is also true. Even after the assault on the Capital. He told them to leave and thanked them for their support. He said “I love you”

And to this day he has not apologized. He has not admitted wrong doing. Donald Trump has not even conceded that he lost the election. This man is dangerous.

This trial is necessary and should result in a judgement of guilty. The evidence is overwhelming. For this democracy to flourish the events of January 6th require Donald Trump to be held responsible. No other conclusion is acceptable.

Do the Republicans in the Senate have a backbone?

If the vote on the Constitutionality of a post term impeachment is any indication, the answer is NO!. The constitutional text is clear. There is no text in the constitution that limits impeachment to removal from office. John Quincy Adams even said impeachment was possible after leaving office. Precedent also supports this position. On at least two occasions the Senate has held impeachment trials after individuals left office.

So without rewriting the constitution, the answer is this impeachment is legal. Still 44 of the 50 republican senators voted that it was unconstitutional to impeach a president after he left the office.

So what should happen.

This impeachment is legal. Donald Trump orchestrated the events of January 6th. For this democracy to survive his crimes must be recognized and prosecuted.

Donald Trump used those very words to stir up his supporters as he sent them to the Capital. That is the very reason this conviction is so important. His vision of America as fiefdom to Donald Trump can not stand.

Vote Guilty to the charges.

and complete the impeachment of former President Donald Trump.
