noun
1.the quality of being patriotic; devotion to and vigorous support for one’s country:”a highly decorated officer of unquestionable integrity and patriotism“
Extremist Groups…
I want members of QAnon or Proud Boys or other Trump enabled white supremist groups to know right now. You don’t speak for me. You are not in the majority. Your intent is to destroy our government as we know it.
You are not Patriots. January 6th proved that beyond any shadow of a doubt. Your movements call for an overthrow of our government and the marginalizing of a great many of our fellow citizens. So stop pretending otherwise.
January 6th was an attempted coup. Donald Trump cheered you on. He brought you to Washington. He fired you up and sent you to the Capital with the intent to overturn the results of an election. For that his actions were treasonous. He earned his 2nd impeachment. He deserves conviction for his crimes against our country.
So from here what happens to the Republican Party.
The Republican Party no longer is home for a moderate. The leadership all seeks the approval of Donald Trump and me first base. Donald Trump demands loyalty. But to what? He doesn’t demand loyalty to the Constitution, if he did he would accept the democratic processes.
Loyalty to the United States is not what he is asking or he wouldn’t fire so many who devoted their lives to this country. He wouldn’t call soldiers losers and suckers. Donald Trump demands loyalty to a dictator/autocrat named Donald Trump.
Patriots fight for the people and a country not for a leader. So those who support Donald Trump can not be considered patriots. Far from wishing to build our democracy, they wish to destroy it.
A home for moderate Republicans.
I would suggest it is time for moderate Republicans to declare themselves as independents. Over the last couple of days members of George Bush’s government have done just that. The time has come to isolate the extremists and get on to the business of governing. As an independent you can renounce the extremists and weaken their grip on the party.
It makes sense. Caucusing with the democrats also makes sense. Will there be disagreements, of course. Democrats often disagree. Many democrats want a socialist health care system. Joe Biden does not support it. The party works it out and moves on.
The current situation is scary.
Yes many individuals, fueled by the rhetoric of Donald Trump believe the election was stolen. He has taken his case to the courts and judges appointed by Donald Trump have ruled that the cases are without merit.
In Pennsylvania the ruling was that the case had merit, but any remedy would disenfranchise more legal votes than illegal votes. The way mail-in-ballots were counted predicted an early lead for republicans which would move to the democratic party as more valid mail in votes got counted.
This is a fact! It happened and Donald Trump lost. He becomes a loser by denying that fact.
We can not allow Trump supporters to violently overthrow our government. That would be the end of our democracy. The United States of America would become the Subservient States of Donald Trump. I personally would not want to live in the resulting country.
The last point is US and Russian Relations.
The Mueller Report points out that the goal of the Russian Government is to plant the seeds of discord in Western Democracies. They have supported Donald Trump because he meets their desires.
Donald Trump’s vision of white racist division in the United States is in line with Valdimir Putin’s goals for the United States. Vladimir Putin wants the end of democracy. A strong US threatens his hold on power.
So Trump Supporters, don’t suggest that I move to Cuba, China, or Russia. I want to live in a democracy. A place where our institutions are strong enough to work through our differences and come out stronger on the other side.
I want to be free to write this blog and not worry about being thrown in jail. Working through our disagreements makes our country strong.
