Dr. Fauci provided the vaccine
And Family is spread across the country.
Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Virginia, Alaska. That’s just me and my siblings. My son is in Oregon. Step children are in Washington state and California. Santa will visit all.
I thought Dr. Fauci hit the right spot when he told the world he had been to the North Pole to personally give Santa a COVID-19 shot. So Santa is now on the way.
Our tradition was to spend Christmas with the cellular family.
Thanksgiving we would have extended family gatherings. Yes on a couple of occasions we visited grandparents for Christmas. But usually it would be just my brothers, sisters, and parents. Santa never disappointed.
The best Christmas gifts were a tricycle and sleds. There was a big hill near by and we would sled it often. Of course as we got older the street extended and it no longer was safe to sled. By then I was into different activities.
I soon got to a point where giving was as important as receiving.
My parents taught me well. My birthday was just before Christmas. With older siblings, who always treated me well, as a younger sibling I always wished to treat them well too. I always asked for money for my birthday, so I could buy Christmas gifts for my parents and siblings.
My mother was disappointed that I didn’t spend the money on myself. She wanted my birthday to be separate from Christmas and special. The money gift gave me the most joy, because I was able to upgrade the gifts for my family.
One brother liked small packages which could be hung in the tree. This made tie tacks and money clips (at the time we didn’t have much money to put in the clip) neat presents. My younger sister always got something special.
Wrapping gifts was always a pleasure.
I enjoyed buying foil paper. My younger sister enjoyed the decorative nature of my gifts as well.
COVID makes this year different.
I will not be going to be with family. I’ll spend Christmas at home. Yes, I decorated a tree and will share the day with a special friend, but I’ll also miss time with my son.
I hope to see my extended family soon. My greatest wish this year is for a return to a more normal life. I want to spend time with all the family and expect that after the vaccination, I will be able to travel again.
But for now…
