Vaccine 90% Effective
What does this mean?
The following link provides a summary of the Pfizer announcement: https://ktla.com/news/nationworld/pfizer-says-early-data-signals-covid-19-vaccine-may-be-90-effective/. The key is that Pfizer is in the final stages of research which looks like promising results. The FDA requires at least 164 infections before certifying the results.
Pfizer expects to ask for government approval of the vaccine later this month. Manufacture of 50 million doses leading to vaccinations of 25 million people (2 doses per person) will be completed by the end of the year.
The plan is to administer the vaccine on a priority basis. Health care workers will be high on the list. General release of the vaccine is still many months away.
Pfizer opted out of Operation Warp Speed
So Donald Trump’s administration had little effect on the development. Pfizer partnered with the German company BioNTech in development. This again shows how Trump’s isolationist policies are counter productive to our well being.
An new development…
In the following article https://www.who.int/csr/don/06-november-2020-mink-associated-sars-cov2-denmark/en/, the WHO describes a new development.
Which makes the vaccine less effective…
Denmark is culling farmed mink. A new mutation of the coronavirus found in farmed mink, which is resistant to currently know COVID-19 antibodies.
My hope is this mutation does not spread. Donald Trump says (and I’m paraphrasing) China could have easily contained this virus.
China was at a disadvantage. When the virus 1st appeared little was know about it. Now with this new development in Denmark, we know more, but it is still airborne.
Strict isolation, quarantine, and contact tracing techniques are needed. All these methods are not part of the strong suit of the Trump administration.
