By now you know my leanings
So why blog?
When I first started blogging I needed somewhere to vent my political feelings. It was difficult at the time to discuss politics at any event without getting into an argument. I do not like arguments, but felt debating was healthy.
So I blog. Anyone who follows my blog know my feelings about Donald Trump. Bully is the best word, but dictator and criminal are close. To Donald Trump, loyalty is Donald Trump is more important than ideals. The discussion has begun on who will be fired next should he be reelected.
Agencies which should be nonpartisan.
Agencies such as the justice department, including the FBI, need to be neutral in a true democracy. When Donald Trump tries use the justice department to punish those with differing opinions, he leads us away from our freedoms. It is not only counter productive, but down right undemocratic.
His first requirement in anyone who works for him is total loyalty to Donald Trump. That is not a democratic ideal, but the ideal of a dictator. I’ve seen this dynamic play out for 4 years. It is why, I have blogged so often against Donald Trump.
Reports are now talking that Donald Trump will begin a 2nd term by firing Christopher Wray, the same way he fired James Comey early in his 1st term. Also on the list are Gina Haspel (Head of the CIA) and Defense Secretary Mark Esper, who had the audacity to defy Donald Trump and refuse to send troops into the streets to stop the Black Lives Matter protests early this summer.
So Donald Trump fires anyone willing to disagree with him.
What happens when a president surrounds himself with YES men?
For one, the chance for a civil discourse is lost. There can be no discourse, because there is no disagreement. For a democracy to work we need differing points of view in positions of authority.
Donald Trump does not allow for disagreement. It is probably why his supporters are so steadfast. They put up with his nonsense, because he is so unyielding.
Now is the time to take back our democracy.
Now is the time to start a civil conversation about our goals as a nation.
Few people disagree we want a stable government. One that lives by the laws we create and our government upholds. That is the basis of a Law and Order President. One who flouts our laws can not be a law and order president. Donald Trump flouts our laws on civility and freedom.
Few people disagree we need secure borders. But most agree that children of undocumented immigrants who have grow up in our country, stayed out of trouble should have a path to citizenship in the only country they have known.
Few people disagree in our right to have arms. But most agree a need to legislate the number of bullets in a clip. At the same time the NRA consistently lobbies against any attempt to reasonable control weapons which our fore fathers had no ability to comprehend.
Heck, I’m not certain the framers of our country had any idea the constitution would last fifty years.
It is time…
To understand we agree on more than we disagree, especially in cases of import. We need to recognize that we are not enemies in this democratic experiment, but allies and act accordingly.
