“People are tired of COVID”
Trump’s quote…
“People are tired of COVID.” I’m tired of COVID. He continued with and “hearing Fauci and all these idiots” I have to differ with him here.
From the beginning Trump has tried unsuccessfully to cover up and steer us in an extremely reckless direction. He may have started by listening to the scientist, but as soon as there was a mixed message on masks. Fauci originally did think they were necessary, he admits that position. He then learned more about the virus and now encourages the use of masks. He wears one himself.
Donald Trump believes what he heard first. Donald Trump refuses to learn. I’d call that the first sign of decline. He just can’t admit he ever made a mistake.
COVID will not just go away. We need a plan and we need acceptance and vigilance to get past COVID. Just wishing it away will not work.
Are we stuck with Donald Trump as our President?
At least until January. But we must now look at the future and not be stuck with a unmitigated disaster which is Donald Trump as our president. He is on the wrong side in so many issues.
- He may be right that we need to deal with our immigration problem, but he is wrong when he doesn’t support DACA or find ways to legalize existing immigrants who have lived and paid taxes in this country for decades.
- Donald Trump may be right that there are issues with how WHO has handled the coronavirus. But he is wrong is suggesting the US is better off not in the WHO. We need the WHO to improve health across the international community. The WHO was able to eliminate small pox and is well on the way to eliminating polio. How can international cooperation be a bad thing when the next pandemic hits? How can we not benefit by discoveries in other countries in future vaccines and medical treatment.
- He is right when he says we have created the greatest country in the world. He is in the process of moving the US into a laughing stock. We can not remove our selves from the international community and continue to grow or exit from Paris Climate Accord and expect our allies to see us as leader. We can not unilaterally exit the Iran Nuclear Arms accord and expect our allies to blindly support us. It just doesn’t work that way.
- Donald Trump is right when he says we need more jobs, but those jobs need to be those which will continue into the future. While unemployment went down during his 1st 3 years, the jobs in the manufacturing sectors, such as the auto industry have been stagnate. Green Jobs are the jobs of the future. Wind, solar, electric and a pivot from hydrocarbons are necessary if we are to survive in the future.
Negotiation Skills…
Donald Trump’s negotiation skills consist of “Your Fired.” This is no way to build a future. We need a future of mutual respect and exchange of ideas. When we disagree we need to discuss and not call the people with differing opinions “idiots”
One of my favorite quotes is the definition of “positive” from Ambrose Bierce’s “Devil’s Dictionary.” According to Bierce the definition of “positive” is “Mistaken at the top of your voice.” The one who is positive, the one who is yelling right now is Donald Trump and he is mistaken about just about everything.
