When did it become no longer necessary?
I had a discussion with a friend today and I looked back at discussions I had in my past. Often the best discussions involved a disagreement of some type. We were taught when I was young that it was okay to disagree, but you should try to find common ground. Often times in discussion the difference of opinions would be minor and the agreement of most important terms would occur.
While I find this still to be true, most debates highlight the minor differences with little attempt to find common ground. Particularly when it comes to politics. Today it is more important to make points, whether those points are valid with the current discussion. Flair and disagreement are more important than fact and substance. As long as this is true our democracy will fail.
Putin Stated Recently that Western Democracy Was Dead
I hope he is wrong, but I can see that we are failing our people in so many ways. Healthcare is one of the most obvious. While both sides claim they wish to provide the best healthcare in the world, they argue over minor differences and refuse to accept any of the opposing points.
The same is true with immigration reform. Both sides plans are amazingly similar. Both want secure borders, both want to provide for those truly at risk to find a safe haven. But again over minor differences, true reform has eluded us for far to long.
Donald Trump is the Extreme
He refuses to recognize anyone’s ideas which are not submitted by the great Donald. There is no wonder that Putin likes him so much. Donald Trump is all about chaos. The more things don’t get done, the better for him. It aligns perfectly with Putin’s objectives. Disharmony in our democracy.
Never has a President…
- So blatantly show favoritism to those who support him
- Tried to punish those who disagree with him
He has used his justice department as a pawn to the advantage of his friends. In some ways I agree with William Barr when he says that those in minor capacities can run governmental policy. But the best work done by many of the top firms in this country has come through teamwork. The days of total domination of leaders is over. Those firms which perform best in today’s world the leaders set direction and give the employees the ability to perform miracles. From disagreement often the best solutions evolve.
In Donald Trump’s world disagreement is not permitted. Disagreeing with Donald Trump is a sure way to get fired. The proof is the number of people removed since the end of his impeachment trial. Anyone who might investigate his wrong doings has been fired. Good people who had the courage to stand up for what is right are gone. The carnage is frightening. It has created chaos in our government.
We can no longer afford the chaos created by Donald Trump. He wishes to rule absolutely. He has no desire to compromise. It is his way or the high way.
Russian Interference
At this point both the Republican Lead Senate Intelligence Committee and the Mueller Report conclude that Russia interfered with the 2016 election. That interference continues today. We should not dispute not ignore this fact. It is true.
So What is next…
The discussion must become more civil and it can not with Donald Trump as our leader. We do not need a president of the red states, who punishes the blue states. We need a president of the United States who believes we are better when we work together.
In this election our choice is clear. A vote for Donald Trump is a vote for Vladimir Putin’s vision of America. A vote to end of our democracy as we know it.
