Watching the Hunt
A Cattle Egret.
While waiting to be picked up from the auto shop today, I watched what I believe was a cattle egret catch a little lizard. After seeing the capture, I continued to observe.
I’m not certain how successful the hunt was, but it was interesting to see it walk away from the shrubs, then sneak up and crane it’s neck up and down. There are several sets of shrubs and it circled one and then the other.
There was a driveway leading into the service center. The egret avoided the entering and exiting vehicles as it kept at it. Slowly circling each set of shrubs looking for game. I did see it catch something small a while later, but not anything the size of the first lizard I saw.
So the car maintenance…
The interesting aspect was mileage. I’ve always attempted to keep my oil fresh, but during the pandemic I watched as my oil indicator slipped from 90 slowly to 20%. During this time I have not driven much.
The mileage since my last service in March was around 2500 miles. I’ve had the car since February 2018 and have 36,000 miles on it. I knew my driving habits had change, but the mileage on my car is a dramatic difference.
I have two trips planned, once I have been properly vaccinated. The first is to Oregon to visit my son. I have not seen him in over a year. The second is to the family homestead in Maine. The 2 trips will be for over 10,000 miles. So much for low mileage.
The trip out west.
Once west of the Mississippi, I plan to sightsee often. There are many parts of the country I just have not visited. This will be my chance. The trip is a bucket list of events.
Originally, I planned to make the trip in late March of last year. I had not set an exact date, but had planned out places to stop and visit on the way out and back. Shortly before the shutdown, I decided the trip needed to be postponed.
The coming of the vaccine will put the trip back on my schedule. So 2021 will be a good year.
